Jacob's Journeying
Menu
(The following is fictional with similarities to real world events.)
We've been waiting
Concealed by foliage gathering intelligence on your operations and personnel.
Just seven feet from the edge of the tree line, watching your every move
Observing through high powered binoculars your entire units movements for days now, timing your guards passes, identifying soft targets, listening to your unsecured radios.
Planning.
We've even gone as far to test your security and seeing your reactions by wearing civilian clothing onto your perimeter.
It's night now... the crickets are chirping
There is little activity, senses dulled from lack of sleep and a hard days work, you sheepishly walk
"We're safe behind the wire" or so you think,
We already exploited a weakness in your defenses and cut out an entry point for swift access the night before.
We will carry a k-bar and a frag grenade during this raid which is fine because a special-trained, confident team of two is all it takes
To knock out an armed sentry of 8.
We've come to disrupt and strike fear into our enemies consciousness.
Silently, we move under the cover of night.
We infiltrate through a place you forgot to put up extra concertina wire.
One of your roving sentries passed the tree while one of us hid in it's shadow and snatched him up
He was determined to not go without a fight, the screams for help weren't heard over the generators powering your flood light
We took his rifle.
No radio chatter or calling for backup whatsoever.
Silently...
Charging up on the next rover in sight we raise our weapons and shock him,
"Put your weapon down! Now!"
That's all it took.
I guess he's scared of talking ghosts.
Onward to the camp's entry point where the other half of your sentry is, we passed by your operations center sentries behind the flood light's whitewash,
(We think they saw us. We aren't wearing the same uniform except a flak jacket.)
Shadowed figures aggress the two at the gate and we force our way through them as they ask to see our ID's
There was very little resistance.
Your vehicle control point was so easy too
They were on high alert when we showed up because nobody was answering their radios checks
The machine gunner was the only one we had to shoot in order to subdue,
4 detainees laying on the ground and silenced now.
Then we dismount the machine gun.
Stealthily moving towards command central.
One of the guards pacing around peeked his head out of the armored hut
(He notices us and becomes suspicious.)
One of us sabotages the generator and the flood light goes dark while the other starts walking toward the hut.
"All stations.. All stations.. Radio check."
(Too late.)
We shot the sentry using the radio and then the other calling in for QRF reinforcements
He was hiding behind cover and we rushed him.
All objectives accomplished.
Time to extract... get out... hurry.
We split up and start setting fire to tents.
People are starting to wake up and yelling can be heard in the distance.
Finally, we each launch our grenades into tents destroying communications gear.
(Good luck getting help now.)
We run out a different path to throw you off even more and keep moving to our extraction point.

Backstory: Short and sweet. I was in an exercise and our security detail got "attacked". It's a mock attack of course. Nobody was hurt but this is basically how it unfolded that night. Our instructors explained it afterwards.
It's training and we learned that night not to be complacent even if it's just training. Complacency kills. It was a serious wake up call and I hope others will learn from this and see it from the attacker's perspective.
